Introduction

Students must recognize and understand why the government has a major impact in the classroom, school, and community. The links found on these pages are used to learn more about different parts of our government.

Content Area & Grade Level

The student will recognize why government is necessary in the classroom, school, and community by

a) explaining the purpose of rules and laws;

b) explaining that the basic purposes of government are to make laws, carry out laws, and decide if laws have been broken

c) explaining that government protect the rights and property of individuals

Activity Plan

In this activity, students are given the opportunity to explore various web pages relating to how the government affects their own personal lives. Each of the questions/activities on the student's page asks the student to make personal opinions for what he/she likes, believes, or feels about a topic.

Extention:

The purpose of this Web Activity Extension is to use the Internet to recognize why the government is necessary in the classroom, school, and community. Each of the activities asks you to draw on personal conclusions and beliefs on a specific topic.
